Protecting Assets and Child Custody in the Face of Deportation: A Guide for Practitioners Assisting Immigrant Families

This one-of-a-kind resource, “Protecting Assets and Child Custody in the Face of Deportation,” is designed for immigrants and those who work with them: the host of attorneys, nurses, social workers, financial services professionals, and religious workers who are stepping up in challenging times. Appleseed’s Manual helps families develop plans to deal with critical financial and family issues in the event of detention, deportation, and other family emergencies.

Below, you will find links to download the full Manual or individual chapters which cover issues like school safety, child custody, psychological issues for children, special considerations for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and financial services and products including credit cards, debit cards, mortgages and rental payments, taxes, veterans benefits, and much more. You can also download checklists which are user-friendly guides to some of the more complicated information from the Manual. You can also access the full Manual, individual chapters and checklists in Spanish.

Thank you to all the pro bono and nonprofit partners that contributed to the Manual, as well as the distribution partners we are working with around the country. Please sign up to be notified as new chapters or additional translations of the Manual are released.
