Seeds of Learning Series

Please join us on April 10, 2019 for an open conversation on how to most effectively deploy research to advance state and local policy change with Kriston McIntosh and Jay Shambaugh of the Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project. The Hamilton Project produces evidence-based policy proposals and analyses to promote broad economic growth that benefits more Americans. The conversation will be moderated by Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Becky Gould and we will be joined by Board members and Center staff from around the Appleseed Network.

​Kriston McIntosh
Kriston Alford McIntosh joined The Hamilton Project in December 2014. McIntosh previously served as a senior vice president in the Washington, D.C. office of Edelman, the world’s largest public relations firm, where she managed the Edelman Alliances practice. McIntosh last served as the staff director of the U.S. Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee, where she was the chief staff liaison to advocacy communities and state and local governments on behalf of the U.S. Senate Democratic Caucus. Prior to joining the Committee, McIntosh was the senior legislative assistant for Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), advising the Congressman on trade agreements before the Committee on Ways and Means and all appropriations requests.

Jay Shambaugh
Jay Shambaugh is the director of The Hamilton Project and a senior fellow in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution. He is also a Professor of Economics and International Affairs at the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. He has spent two stints in public service. Most recently, he served as a Member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers where he was involved in policy related to international economics, macroeconomics, competition policy, energy and environment policy, housing, finance, technology, as well as other issues. He also served as first Senior Economist for International Economics and then Chief Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

Rebecca  L.Gould, J.D.
Becky has worked at Nebraska Appleseed since October of 2001, first as a Staff Attorney for the Economic Justice Program specializing in poverty law, and then starting in 2007 as Executive Director. During her time with Appleseed, Becky has successfully litigated cases in state and federal court and engaged in policy advocacy at the state and federal levels on issues ranging from poverty to immigration. In addition to her work at Appleseed, Becky is the Past President of the Robert Van Pelt Inn of Court, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Rural Affairs, the Food Bank of Lincoln, and ISoft Data Systems, Inc. Becky received her B.A. in History with High Distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her J.D. with Distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law. She lives with her husband Jeff and their two children near Valparaiso, Nebraska.
