Appleseed Names John Johnson and the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance Recipients of 2021 Pillars of Justice Awards

WASHINGTON, DC – The Appleseed Foundation will present its Pillars of Justice award to John Johnson and the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance at the annual Appleseed Pillars of Justice Celebration on September 9.  The Pillars of Justice award recognizes individuals and organizations who have shown remarkable leadership and commitment to advancing justice for all.
John Johnson is the CEO and Co-Founder of Edgeworth Economics, which he has helped build into a leading economic consulting firm.  A former Co-Chair of the Appleseed Foundation Board of Directors, John has contributed his economic expertise to pro bono projects across the Appleseed Network.  Those projects have helped immigrants sending money to family abroad, students working to desegregate public schools in NYC, and families seeking access to justice in Massachusetts.

“With a focus on practical social justice needs and evidence-based research, the Appleseed Foundation and its network of 16 centers has had a tangible impact on communities across the United States and Mexico,” John Johnson said.  “It has been incredible to be a part of numerous projects with the organization over the years and I am now humbled and honored to accept the Pillars of Justice Award from this distinguished organization.”

The Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA) is a collaboration of nearly 300 law firms who have come together to advance racial equity in the law and racial justice in our country.  Through its 19 working groups that sit at the intersection of substantive areas of the law and racial equity, the LFAA is developing and expanding the collective expertise on how best to dismantle systemic racism in the law.  Protecting voting rights for all Americans is one of the LFAA’s most urgent priorities.

“We are honored and incredibly thankful to Appleseed for providing us with this platform to share LFAA’s mission of advancing racial equity in the law,” LFAA Co-Presidents Brenna DeVaney and Kiisha Morrow said.  “As an organization we are committed to centering the voices of individuals and communities of color, and collaborating with legal services organizations and other experts to effectuate our mission.  Our work is just beginning.”

Appleseed is a network of 16 justice centers across the United States and Mexico working together to reduce poverty, combat discrimination, and advance the rule of law.  Appleseed Centers unite research, organizing, policy advocacy, and impact litigation to build systemic solutions for their communities' most pressing problems.  More information about the Pillars of Justice Celebration on September 9 is available at www.AppleseedNetwork.org/Pillars.
