DC Center Releases 5th HIV/AIDS Report Card

Last month, DC Appleseed released its fifth HIV/AIDS report card, a comprehensive tool for gauging the effectiveness of the city's testing, education and prevention programs. The report sites much progress since 2005 but calls for strong commitment and leadership from the business community and local organizations to reinforce municipal efforts in fighting the epidemic. Protecting Unaccompanied Immigrant Children in U.S. Custody

Each year, thousands of immigrant children living in the United States - whether asylum seekers, victims of human trafficking, or in some cases, even misidentified American citizens - are apprehended by authorities. Oklahoma Remittance Tax Unfairly Targets Immigrants

Appleseed is mobilizing to oppose a recently enacted Oklahoma tax on remittances, passed by the state legislature in June. The first of its kind, the law imposes a five dollar fee on each remittance transaction made through a licensed money transmitter, plus an additional fee of one percent of amounts greater than five hundred dollars.
