Louisiana Appleseed Joins Coalition to Eradicate the School-to-Prison Pipeline

Last week Louisiana Appleseed joined the Louisiana School to Prison Reform Coalition, a group committed to pursuing systemic legislative and policy changes to curtail the thousands of Louisiana youth who end up in the "school-to-prison pipeline," which is described as various disciplinary policies that push children out of school and hasten their entry into the juvenile, and eventually the criminal, justice system, where prison is the end of the road. Nebraska Appleseed Files Class Action Lawsuit on Behalf of Low-Income Families Seeking Reinstatement of Medical Care

Nebraska Appleseed recently filed a class action lawsuit challenging the state's authority to take away medical assistance from low-income families. The suit asserts that the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has overstepped its bounds by removing vital Medicaid health care coverage from families who fail to fully meet work requirements under Nebraska's welfare-to-work program known as Employment First.Read more...
