WASHINGTON - March 20 - Hundreds of activists and community leaders from the tri-state area are expected to gather Wednesday, March 22 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the SEIUs Local 32BJ on 101 Avenue of the Americas to discuss the importance of renewing key provisions of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965.
The Voting Rights Act Reauthorization Forum, sponsored by People For the American Ways Northeast Regional Office, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF) and more than a dozen other organizations, will address reauthorization of key temporary provisions of the VRA which provide language assistance and prevent racial discrimination at the voting booth.
